What Is a Handpan?
The handpan is a modern instrument with ancient inspirations. It evolved from the Hang, invented in 2000 by Swiss instrument makers
Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer of PANArt. The Hang was influenced by the Trinidadian steelpan, the Indian Ghatam, and other global percussive traditions. Today, handpans are handcrafted from resonant steel, tuned to produce soothing, meditative tones.
