During the February 2025  midwinter break we provided students aged 6 to 12 with two cultural art workshops at the museum as part of the Voices of Diaspora program made possible by of the New York City Council Cultural Immigrant Initiative Discretionary Grants awarded to the museum by City Council Members Joseph Borelli and David Carr.

The workshops highlighted the creation of Tibetan prayer flags, exploring their colors, symbolism, and the Tibetan cultural tradition that the spirituality of the wind that carries prayers and hopes. It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the hopes and dreams of today’s youth.  The Tibetan mask-making workshop introduced children to the significance of these fierce-looking masks, revealing their true purpose as symbols of protection rather than intimidation. We are thrilled that this program  has allowed us to connect with the Staten Island community, deepening our engagement and sharing Tibetan culture in interactive workshops at the museum and in schools across the island.
